There is concern about the large gap between national reduction targets for 2020 and what is needed to keep global warming below 2°C/1.5°C.

The EU Commission stated that Belgium is not on track to meet the 2020 targets (15% compared to 2005) and that the national emission reduction plan does not include a quantitative assessment of the existing or proposed initiatives to meet the 2020 targets.
